In addition to volunteering when the OPA works at the OFB in October, there is another opportunity happening right now, and the Food Bank needs our help.

Hello OFB Volunteer Community!

Remember back in March when we participated in the "We Can Do This" challenge? Thanks to your help, we won a truckload of food equivalent to 150,000 meals!

Now there's another opportunity to win Oregon another truckload of food! September is Hunger Action Month, and Feeding America is asking people who care about hunger issues to pledge to take action. The food bank that receives the most pledges wins!

All it takes is a few clicks. Here's what to do:

Empty Bowls to feed the hungry

It's that time of year again, Blues Festival Time, and that means it's time to check out the Oregon Food Bank and OPA booth were they will be selling hand crafted bowls to help feed the hungry. You can find more about the story of empty bowls on our website, www.oregonpotters.org.

So go down to the Waterfront Blues Festival this weekend July 2 - 5, gates open at 11 am and close at 10pm. Listen to some great music and buy a beautiful bowl for yourself or a gift and know you are supporting a great cause.

This is a little video by OPA member Jeanne Garrett. Jeanne is a Flight Attendant and while working dreams about being in her studio. So while she was not able to be in her studio she put this little video together and I think it's brilliant. Jeanne is also Co-Chairing the OPA's Empty Bowls event this year with Bill Sanchez. This is a great event that raises money for local food banks. The OPA sets up a booth at the Waterfront Blues Festival each year and has raised over $200K over the last 10 years for the Oregon Food Bank.

deadline upcoming for Sandy Mountain Festival

Just a reminder that the deadline to apply to the Sandy Mountain Festival is this Sunday, 2/28. The Festival is scheduled for July 10 - 11, 2010. OPA Members at OFB

I never thought working in the cold room at the Oregon Food Bank, packing frozen ears of corn, would have been as much fun as it was. It was a great opportunity to meet fellow OPA members. Twenty-one strong and a great time was had by all and for such a great cause. And what attractive headwear, gloves and beard guards that we got to wear. Can't wait until the next time. If you are thinking of arranging your own group to volunteer at the Food Bank - after the holidays is a good time to go - the Food Bank is always short of volunteers after the holidays. Upcoming Volunteer Day at Oregon Food Bank

Our volunteer shift is fast approaching. If you're attending on Thursday evening, the Food Bank is also looking for food donations. On their "most wanted" list are canned meats, canned & boxed meals, canned or dried beans & peas, pasta, rice & cereal, canned fruits, 100% fruit juice & cooking oil.
And don't forget, the General Meeting on Friday is also an opportunity to bring food for the Food Bank.
So, put a few items in your reusable shopping bag and drop them off. No donation is too small and all will be much appreciated.
